End-of-Season Watermaker Winterization

Before lay-up — watermaker checklist

Switching off the watermaker at season end is not enough. Per Seacraft FAQ, if the unit will be unused for more than 4 weeks, winterisation is required to prevent bacterial growth inside the membranes. This checklist is applied just before marina or ashore lay-up.

For flush and preservative details see the Membrane Flush & Winterization Guide; for spring opening see the Pre-Season Checklist. Chemical dosing and sequence are confirmed during service based on your model.

6-Step Summary
  1. Final freshwater flush (15 min)
  2. Drain system
  3. Preservative / lay-up chemical
  4. Remove filters
  5. Isolate power
  6. Book winter service

When Does This Checklist Apply?

Situation Winterisation needed? Notes
Season end — boat wintering Yes Full checklist; Bodrum/Göcek package — book from October
Marina/ashore idle more than 4 weeks Yes FAQ threshold
1–3 week break (active season) No — not full winterisation Extended flush enough — flush guide
Occasional winter use Yes if idle exceeds 4 weeks Repeat steps after last use

Bodrum and Göcek location pages reference an active season of April–October; end-of-season care is typically planned as that period closes.

Step-by-Step End-of-Season Checklist

Items below match the existing checklist. Complete the final production run before starting; lay-up chemical application is best done with service support.

1

Final freshwater flush (~15 min)

After the last production of the season, rinse the membrane circuit with fresh water for about 15 minutes. Reduces salt build-up and leaves a clean path before lay-up — longer than routine post-run flush — flush guide.

2

Stop and drain the system

Stop production and depressurise safely. SCW series protection shuts down on sudden pressure loss — controlled shutdown is preferred at season end. Final check of leaks and pressure lines.

3

Apply preservative (pickle / lay-up chemical)

Circulate lay-up solution to protect the membrane over winter. Lay-up chemical is listed in the spare parts catalogue. Skipping end-of-season pickling is a common first-time mistake — common mistakes.

4

Remove pre-filters

Remove sediment and dolomite filters or replace them as part of the end-of-season package. Stored wet filters risk biological fouling. Bodrum/Göcek annual packages include on-site filter replacement.

5

Isolate power

Isolate DC/AC feeds per unit instructions. Align with your general boat electrical lay-up plan; check panel and remote connections for loose contacts after a season of vibration and moisture.

6

Book winter service

Especially for wintering boats, booking from October is recommended — Bodrum and Göcek FAQs. Service may include membrane cleaning, filters, lay-up and 250-hour pump oil assessment; scope confirmed after survey.

Plan spring opening now

After lay-up, apply the pre-season checklist in spring: drain preservative, fit new filters, test run and TDS check. The two checklists are sequential companions.

On-Site End-of-Season Package

Bodrum

An annual maintenance package for wintering boats includes end-of-season membrane cleaning, filter replacement and system winterisation on-site. Booking from October is recommended — Bodrum location.

Göcek

The same framework applies in Göcek; D-Marin Göcek offers long-term berthing and winter storage infrastructure. Book via Göcek location.

Didim and other marinas

Didim is described as a year-round wintering hub; watermaker work can be coordinated with general boat maintenance. Marmaris, Foça and other locations recommend annual on-site filter and membrane checks — all locations.

Spare parts readiness

Lay-up chemical, filters and pump oil if needed are supplied from the spare parts catalogue. Local manufacturing means parts are usually available within the same week — replacement schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Both locations describe an annual package for wintering boats: end-of-season membrane cleaning, filter replacement and on-site winterisation. Book from October via the appointment formGöcek, Bodrum.

Membrane drying and biofouling risk increase; capacity may stay low in spring. Our flush guide notes that skipping preservative harms season opening. For idle periods over 4 weeks, winterisation is a mandatory FAQ item.

The FAQ threshold is 4 weeks. Shorter breaks usually need extended flush and filter checks only, not full lay-up chemical. If you are near the limit, confirm with service — flush & winterization guide.

Final flush and filter removal can be done by the owner. Lay-up chemical application and membrane cleaning are best supported by the Seacraft team — dosing and sequence vary by model. Winterisation is part of periodic care in our maintenance guide — maintenance guide.

Drain lay-up chemical, renew filters, run ~15 minutes test production and check TDS. FAQ defines pre-season preparation as its own periodic task — pre-season checklist.
